Hera, Queen of the gods, wanted Morpheus to deliver the news of Ceyx’s death to Alcyone. Ovid in his Metamorphoses tells of the myth of Iris waking the sleeping god, to deliver his command. The scene has become a popular source of inspiration in the artistic world.
